On the second week of the topic Myself we talked about our country, Malta.  We have our own language and our own flag.  Other people who live in other countries have their own language and their own flag, too.  We looked at different flags. We talked about diversity; we are all different but we are all beautiful.  

     We had different activities to help us get to know and accept each other.  The aim of these activities were to promote diversity.  

      We focused on visual discrimination and visual memory skills, listening and speaking skills. This week's activities included a matching card games, tracing and painting a life-size boy and girl, a face collage and symmetry painting.  We are learning rhymes and action songs that relate to the topic Myself. 

    The life-size boy and girl paintings activity was good practice for eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills.  It was also aimed to help the children learn how to work in a team, share, take turns, appreciate each other's work and gain confidence in own achievements.

      This is how we made our face collages:    I put out paint in different shades of skin tone and the children chose a colour and painted the face.  Then they chose the facial features taking care to match the eyes and the ears and glued them in their right places.  Finally added the hair using either wool, cottonwool or paper. 

Symmetry

      Symmetry painting:  First we drizzled paint all over the paper.  Then we folded the paper in half and pressed both halves together.  Then  we unfolded the paper very carefully and, voila`:  our colourful symmetry paintings!
