We learned that Spring is one of the four seasons.The weather is warmer so we change the type of clothing we wear and the kind of food we eat. At home, mum is cleaning the house and removing thick carpets, curtains and quilts. Outside the flowers are in full bloom and our gardens look beautiful. We talked about all this and more and the children were encouraged to talk about their observations.
We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. The starting point was the story 'The very hungry caterpillar' by Eric Carle. The children love the colourful book and the story.
We had a caterpilllar painting activity which the children really enjoyed. I set out paint, some empty yoghurt cups and some plastic forks to make the grass under the caterpillar circles. During this activity the children practised their tripod grasp, talked a lot and shared ideas. They also shared the paint, cups and forks and took turns.

Aim: to learn to draw curves in the direction of writing.
The caterpillar eventually turns into a beautiful butterfly, so our next activity was a butterfly collage. I set out colourful kite paper cut into small squares, glitter and glue. the children decided which colours to choose for their butterflies and talked about their preferences. They shared the glue and paper, took turns and practised both their pincer and tripod grasps.

Aim: To improve eye and hand coordination
We watched another video about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. This is a complex and fascinating process and the children had the opportunity to watch it close-up. We talked about it later and I am sure this experience will help them appreciate these tiny creatures more.
The letter of the week was letter'w' (werqa).
Every week, we play games using the letters we have already learned to help us remember them while we are in the process of learning new ones.
During maths this week, the main learning intention was learn which number comes next.
